Child poverty is a particular problem in some parts of Scotland - and in the inner cities in particular. I've done some work (e.g. maps
in this publication) on this in the past for the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission and what surprised me was just how shocking the figures were in places. I've used the HMRC's
child poverty data for Data Zones to produce the maps below, using 2010 figures. There are all kinds of poverty and child poverty measures out there but on this measure you'll see some striking patterns in Edinburgh and Glasgow in particular, as below.
